She began sewing at a very young age since her mother is a National Blue Ribbon Quilter, and she has been producing interior decor products for the last 15 years. From working as a seamstress in a variety of drapery shops and other areas of the residential decor industry, Michele has gained an advantage when it comes to designing custom applications. Due to her experiences, Michele knows every stage of measuring, fabricating, and installing window treatments and soft furnishings.

“My favorite customers are the ones where I hand them several scaled illustrations of their wall of windows and they choose the most artistic one! That’s what I live for. I love rooms that are so unique there has to be a window treatment to go into that setting. I really enjoy working with different people, hearing their ideas, and collaborating with them on what will suit them best. It’s a lot of fun! I’ve been told that for every 200 decorators, I’ll be the only one that knows how to accomplish an extremely custom job because I know how to make it. Growing up I didn’t realize that would be special. I’m truly blessed to be able to do what I love every day.” ~ Michele High

Modern Master Bath Remodel in Bryn Mawr, PA

Located in Bryn Mawr, PA is a master bath remodel recently completed by HomeTech Renovations that provided our clients with a modern, spa-like retreat. The project included the removal of an existing closet to make way for new wardrobe cabinets as well as the custom organization of the existing walk-in closet. A frosted glass pocket door was incorporated into the design to eliminate the door swing and to allow natural light to penetrate the space while still maintaining privacy. Wenge wood cabinetry with a natural finish, large format porcelain tile, Pietra Di Cardosa limestone, and glass tile accents create a relaxing atmosphere and provide the bath with modern style. The mix of cool and warm tones gives this space a calming and soothing feel while still being welcoming.

The wardrobes, floating vanities, and wall-mounted center console and mirror frames are constructed of exotic Wenge wood with a natural finish which brings warmth to the space. The Pietra Di Cardosa limestone countertops have a honed finish, and the Grohe Atrio sink faucets complement the streamlined forms of the other plumbing fixtures in the bathroom. Large format porcelain floor tile with a subtle linear pattern contributes to the clean lines found throughout the room, and floor to ceiling glass tile on the exterior wall adds color and texture. Low voltage, recessed light fixtures emit ample task and ambient lighting in the space.

The frameless glass shower enclosure features white Carrara marble wall tile and herringbone marble and limestone floor tile. A complementary glass mosaic is set vertically on the entire exterior wall to create visual interest, while Grohe plumbing fixtures add to the luxuriousness of the bathroom. Pietra Di Cardosa limestone shower seat, jambs, and caps contrast against lighter elements, and a recessed alcove located in the half wall of the shower is strategically hidden from external view. The frameless glass panel and door system allows for more natural light to saturate the shower. The Duravit Starck freestanding soaking tub and the wall-mounted, Grohe tub fill are sleek statement pieces that complete the modern look and add to the tranquility of the space.

This master bath underwent a dramatic transformation during the remodel. Below are some before and after photos:

Period Inspired Kitchen Remodel in Wayne, PA

Period Inspired Kitchen Remodel HomeTech RenovationsLocated in Wayne, PA is a kitchen remodel recently completed by HomeTech Renovations that provided our clients with a space that accentuates their entertaining lifestyle, is able to support their growing family, and is reflective of the period style of their home. The project included the removal of an existing laundry and storage closet in order to create a space for a casual dining area. The narrow space that was originally the butler’s pantry is now a spacious bar area, and the central island houses the sink, completing the kitchen work triangle. Located next to the range is a cottage style window from Pella that replaced the small window over the sink and allows access to the exterior herb garden. The new layout of the kitchen creates an open environment in which family, friends, and guests can easily interact.

White, beaded inset, shaker style cabinetry provides the space with traditional elements. The large island is constructed of Pennsylvania cherry with a glazed finish and features integral wainscot paneling and hand-turned legs. A Rohl, fireclay, apron front sink along with a satin nickel Rohl faucet, soap pump, and vacuum disposal switch were installed in the island. The new bar area showcases white, shaker style cabinetry with antique restoration glass inserts and blue painted interiors, as well as a Rohl faucet and a Linkasink copper sink. The range area is a major feature of the kitchen due to its mantle style hood and tile backsplash. Esther Halferty of Lilywork, one of our favorite local artisans featured in our Artisan Gallery, handcrafted the tile backsplash which is set in a herringbone pattern as well as the decorative tile feature over the cooking surface.

The honed Belgium bluestone countertops contrast against the lighter elements throughout the kitchen, and the reclaimed, white and red oak flooring with a natural oil finish provides additional warmth to the space. Because of our clients’ love of cooking, commercial grade appliances, such as the Wolf Professional Series range and the Meile steam oven, were installed. The Meile refrigerator features fully integrated, wood panels that provide the unit with a furniture-like feel and zero clearance hinges that allow for the panels.

This kitchen underwent a major transformation during the remodel. Below are some before and after photos:

We anguish over our messy surroundings knowing that soon we’ll have a house full of family and friends, and we wonder how we can possibly get it all together in time. This increases our stress levels causing strain on our health, lack of focus and clarity, irritability, and even depression. Clutter doesn’t give you the space needed to receive the support and comfort that is necessary in life.

Prepare the Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast with Wolf Appliances

Filed under: Designer's Thoughts,Innovative Materials,Kitchens — Tags: , , — HomeTech Renovations @ 5:22 pm

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner? As you prepare for the holiday season, think about upgrading your existing kitchen appliances to Wolf appliances to help you cook an amazing dinner for your family and friends. Wolf offers commercial grade appliances to residential customers who want to create gourmet meals without the hassle and who want their kitchen to look like it belongs to a professional chef. What a great way to wow your family and friends!

Wolf offers a wide variety of cooking appliances that include built-in ovens, convection steam ovens, cooktops, warming drawers, and microwaves. Let’s take a look at some of Wolf’s most popular appliances as well as ones that HomeTech installs in our high-end kitchen remodels.

Built-In Ovens: Wolf’s built-in ovens feature dual convection, which controls heat and airflow more precisely than single-convection systems and eliminates hot and cool spots. Uniform heat throughout the oven and the circulation of air around the food produce faster and more consistent results. Unlike most ovens that treat different cooking options as if they were the same, Wolf dual convection ovens offer 10 cooking modes so every meal gets the exact heat and airflow it needs for desired results.

Convection Steam Ovens: Wolf’s convection steam ovens deliver precise control with technology that senses the amount, size, and shape of food, and it monitors the time, temperature, and environment while cooking. With steam cooking, moisture, heat, and airflow work together to preserve the nutrients, texture, and color of foods, and keep them moist and flavorful. Meats defrost evenly, while pastries can be proofed, baked, and crisped. The risks of overcooking or undercooking are reduced since automatic modes and customized functions eliminate guesswork. Preheating is extremely fast, and flavor and appearance are always fresh, even when food is reheated. Wolf’s convection steam ovens offer twelve cooking modes, and can prepare any dish that is typically prepared in a conventional oven, range, or microwave oven.

Cooktops: Wolf offers a variety of cooktops to meet every cook’s needs, including gas cooktops with patented, dual-stacked burner design and electric cooktops with multiple heating elements and zones. Induction cooktops are quickly becoming popular due to their high performance and energy efficiency. They are 90-95% energy efficient as no heat is wasted because energy is supplied directly to the cooking vessel. Induction cooktops are safer than others since the elements heat just the cookware and not the glass cooking surface. As another safety feature, elements will not be energized without an induction-compatible vessel, such as cast iron or magnetic stainless steel, on the cooktop surface.

Warming Drawers: Wolf’s warming drawers feature superior air control to keep moist foods moist and crisp foods crisp. The drawers offer a variety of temperature settings and the electronic controls are hidden to provide the units with a sleek appearance.

Microwaves: Wolf offers a variety of microwaves, including standard, convection, and drawers that make fast meals better and can be used in combination with other appliances to finish off your cooking tower and create an integrated look. Wolf’s microwave drawers are often included in HomeTech’s kitchen remodels and can be built in undercounter or in a wall application, providing easy access to the food. The “micro warm” feature allows you to keep food warm for up to 30 minutes.

So make your Thanksgiving meal preparation less stressful and hassle-free and choose the Wolf appliances that best fit your needs. Show off your kitchen’s new look and the delicious meals that you create!

To get your cooking juices flowing here are recipes from Wolf for a Chocolate Pecan Tart and Cornbread Apple Stuffing that will make your Thanksgiving dinner even more special.

Designer Bath Styles

Although we spend a decent amount of time in our bathrooms, getting ready for the day and before we go to sleep, we sometimes neglect them with the same design and construction as the rest of our house. An ordinary bathroom can easily be transformed into something extraordinary, almost like a little escape from the rest of your home.

Here at HomeTech, when we are first looking to design or redesign a bathroom space, we look to discover what the client is looking for. What kind of design style do they favor and wish to see in their space? Although there are numerous different styles a bathroom design represents, you can also mix and match different design components to create a desired look.

Contemporary: Features clean lines and smooth surfaces without any adornment. The room contains natural elements and bold color, focusing on the basics of line, shape and form. Surfaces are usually made out of light-colored woods, frosted or clear glass, stainless steel, nickel or chrome and the lighting is designed to create an artistic statement, highlighting the room’s focal points.

Contemporary Style Bath by HomeTech

This contemporary master bath that HomeTech designed contains polished chrome plumbing, dark wood cabinetry and leather-finished stone countertops and jambs.  A custom pendant light was chosen to illuminate a design on the walls, adding a certain ambiance.

Modern: This style is clean, using streamlined pieces and polished surfaces.  The walls are usually white with neutral color accents throughout the space.  An important aspect of modern design is the focus on geometry and angular shapes.

This modern master bath, designed by HomeTech, is filled with warm earthy tones contrasted by clean, crisp lines and design. The use of Brazilian multicolor slate, amber-colored glass tile and walnut cabinetry create a relaxing retreat.

Traditional: Features a neutral color palate, with bronze accents and warm wood tones. The shapes in this style setting are typically more graceful and the pieces are constructed of dark wood. The windows treatment is usually a much tailored look with structured panels with the possibility of incorporating simple patterns.

Traditional Style Bath by HomeTech

In this American traditional bathroom design, HomeTech incorporated polished chrome hardware, marble countertops and warm, rich wood pieces, creating a traditional adult retreat.

Transitional: This style is the marriage of traditional and modern furniture, finishes and materials. The features include, simple lines, neutral color scheme and the use of light and warmth to highlight the space. The result is an elegant, enduring design that is both comfortable and classic.

This transitional-inspired master bath designed by HomeTech used a pedestal tub as the focal point in front of the large Palladium window. Custom-cut stone tile, an amber art glass shower ceiling, and cherry inset cabinets with a rich coffee bean stain were used to create warmth throughout the space.

Style Specifics: Modern

Located in Media, PA is a master bath remodel completed by HomeTech Renovations which showcases the key elements of modern design.

Modern design emphasizes the importance of simple form and function, and features clean lines, geometric shapes, neutral color palettes, uncluttered space, orderliness, and the mix of industrial and natural materials. Form is perhaps the most important element in modern design, which focuses on geometric and angular shapes. Forms are generally simple with little or no ornamentation, providing flat surfaces and unbroken, clean lines. Even though simplicity and a minimalistic approach fuel this style, the spaces are not boring. Neutrals such as whites, beiges, and browns are commonly complemented by a bold accent color. The neutral palette allows specific objects and materials to be showcased. In modern design “less is more,” so choosing accessories that either blend into the space to keep the emphasis on order or that create a strong visual impact is important. However, sculptures and paintings serve as integral parts of this design style. Industrial materials such as chrome, stainless steel, glass, and plastic contrast against the softer more natural materials like linen, leather, and wood. Surfaces are smooth, sleek, and even, and floors are usually cement, concrete, or bare wood. A key element in modern design is lighting that highlights focal points and emphasizes the decorative elements in a space as well as its simple interior architecture. Many people view modern design as cold and stark, but this design style creates a delicate balance of simplicity and comfort which is expressed through its materials, forms, and functions.

Modern design evolved during the Modernism movement of the early 1900s when the German Bauhaus School of Design developed the philosophy that “form should be combined with function.” Modern design is related to the time period in which there was a movement from traditional forms in architecture, design, and art toward more simplified, streamlined, and unadorned forms and materials. Modern spaces tend to follow a strict style format that has remained unchanged for several decades.

This “modern” master bath showcases clean, crisp lines and design. Sleek and streamlined floating cabinetry creates an open feeling in the space while providing multiple storage options, which is a prime example of “form and function.” Rectangular mirrors, sleek sconces, and the geometric shapes of the amber glass mosaic and the Brazilian slate speak to the angular forms commonly found in modern design. The freestanding wall in the shower area becomes a piece of sculpture within the room while also providing more privacy for the shower, again combining “form and function.” The white walls create a neutral backdrop from which the earthy tones of the materials and the pops of color from the accessories stand out. The industrial materials such as the chrome plumbing fixtures, amber colored glass mosaic tile, and black linen porcelain tile on the main floor contrast against the natural materials such as the Brazilian multi-color slate, walnut cabinetry, and pebbles on the shower floor. The skylight over the corner tub allows natural light to highlight the space’s interior architecture, and the spot lighting on a custom piece of artwork creates a focal point in the space. The sleek forms and clean lines, blending of industrial and natural materials, neutral color scheme with pops of color, and overall functionality of the space make this master bath a modern retreat.

This project underwent some innovative changes throughout the remodel. Below are some before and after photos:

Style Specifics: Contemporary

HomeTech Renovations Completes Contemporary Style Master Bathroom Design DoylestownLocated in Doylestown, PA is a master bath remodel completed by HomeTech Renovations which showcases the key elements of contemporary design.

Contemporary design features clean lines, neutral color schemes, smooth surfaces, and uncluttered space, while creating an inviting, warm, and comfortable atmosphere. Contemporary design is often confused with “modern” design which refers to a historical design movement with strict guidelines, while “contemporary” simply means “of the present time” and “in the now.” Contemporary style is all about what’s current, innovative, trendy, and ever-changing. Unlike modern design, contemporary design is not rigid and harsh, but instead is a blend of softer, more comfortable, and more livable elements. Contemporary design focuses on line, space, and color to create interiors that are sleek and fresh, and simplicity and texture help to define this style. The style’s simple lines and smooth finishes create a calming atmosphere and are contrasted by edgy, textured, and unique design accents. The contemporary style borrows functionality and streamlined ideals from the modernist movement, but it is also inspired by a wide range of other design styles.

The key elements of contemporary style are line, space, and color, of which line is perhaps the most distinctive. Clean lines, gentle curves, simplified details, streamlined structure, and minimal decoration exemplify the forms found in this style. Rounded forms and asymmetrical designs are often featured as well. Space is another primary element, as plain and unadorned space is fundamental to contemporary style. Bare space is equally as important as the areas filled with objects, since less is more in the contemporary design philosophy. Each piece should stand out individually, and for it to make an impact, the space needs to be uncluttered. Contemporary design uses neutrals, such as blacks, whites, tans, creams, browns, and grays, as the main interior colors. The neutral palette is usually accented with a bright, bold, statement color since the aim is to evoke a warm and vibrant feeling in the space. By using neutrals to create a basic background, accent pieces stand out even more.

Contemporary Bath DesignOther features of contemporary design include natural textures, metal accents, dark wood tones, reflective surfaces, and focal lighting. Textures should be natural and are used to soften and warm the space. Flooring should be bare and smooth and made out of wood or stone. Accenting with metals, such as chrome, nickel, and stainless steel, is another important design aspect, as they provide a sleek finish and clean look. The use of various metals also helps to balance the warm, very light or very dark wood tones often found in contemporary design. Reflective surfaces also play a role in this style and can be incorporated as mirrors, glass, and exposed metals. Lighting is pivotal in this style because it illuminates a space’s design and highlights its focal points. Some common contemporary lighting choices include track lighting, pendants, and recessed lighting. Overall, contemporary design is a mixture of natural and industrial materials.

This “contemporary” master bath serves as an adult retreat and incorporates various materials and ideals that are commonly found in this design style. The master bath is an open, functional, uncluttered, and Zen-like space that has various privacy zones. A large, curved shower wall provides the space with drama while still keeping it simple. A custom, curved window seat echoes the shower wall’s sleek form. Due to its tan-colored walls, this space has a neutral backdrop which allows the accent colors to stand out and make a statement. The orange in the glass mosaic tile applied to the curved shower wall and the orange and ochre hues in the multi-colored slate tile pop against the tan walls and dark elements.

Natural textures are incorporated into the bathroom through the use of exotic, leather finished stone countertops and jambs, Sunset Glory slate tiles on the floor and inner shower wall, boucle tweed vessel sinks, and a custom resin panel that features a woven grass texture. Polished chrome plumbing fixtures are sleek in their design and create contrast against the other materials. Dark wood cabinetry in a streamlined style grounds the space and allows the accent colors to make a larger impact. Reflective surfaces are integrated in the form of the large, sheet mirror located above the vanity, the custom mirrored alcove in the shower, the multi-colored glass tile used on the curved shower wall, and the polished chrome plumbing fixtures. The lighting highlights the focal points and guides the eye around the room, allowing the design to be experienced in its totality. A custom pendant light casts a beautiful design on the walls and creates a comforting ambience. The materials used in this master bath retreat provide a feeling of tranquility and create a spa-like environment, and this bathroom exemplifies the contemporary design style.

This master bath took on quite a drastic transformation. Below are some before and after photos:
